The Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology Society of North America (RESNA) will host its 2024 Colin McLaurin Distinguished Lecture on Oct. 17 at the University of Buffalo.
In an Oct. 8 bulletin, RESNA said that each year, the association “recognizes a scholar and leader who has made substantial and innovative contributions to the field of rehabilitation engineering and assistive technology through research, education and/or practice. This lecture is available as a virtual event as well as in person at the University of Buffalo (UB).”
Participants who attend the lecture and complete a post-event survey and quiz can earn 0.1 IACET CEU.
The webinar, which starts at 5:15 p.m. Eastern time on Oct. 17, features Edward Steinfeld, Arch D, FAIA, a Distinguished SUNY (State University of New York) Professor of Architecture who will present a lecture and a Q&A session on “The Evolution of Universal Design.”
Steinfeld is the founding director of the Center for Inclusive Design and Environmental Access.
“Dr. Steinfeld, a thought leader in universal design since its inception in the 1990s, will share insights and examples from projects at UB’s Center for Inclusive Design and Environmental Access,” RESNA said in the announcement. Learning objectives include being able to identify the difference between accessible and universal design; to define how the concept of universal design has evolved; to identify the evidence base behind accessible design and universal design; and to list resources available at the IDEA Center at UB.
The lecture is free to attend, either virtually or in person at the 190 Pharmacy Building at UB South Campus in Buffalo, New York. A reception for in-person attendees will begin at 4:30 p.m.
