The Rehabilitation Engineering & Assistive Technology Society of North America (RESNA) will start instituting testing deadlines for candidates applying to take the Assistive Technology Professional (ATP) or Seating & Mobility Specialist (SMS) exams.
Starting April 1, the new process will require applicants for either test to sit for the exams within a three-month period.
RESNA announced in a news release that it’s created four upcoming exam periods along with application deadlines and late application deadlines.
For the July 1-Sept. 1, 2013, exam period, applications must be submitted from April 1 through May 31, 2013. Applicants who miss the application deadline can pay a late fee of $25 from June 1 through June 15 and still qualify for the July 1-Sept. 30 exam period.
The other exam periods and corresponding application deadlines are as follows:
Exam period of Oct. 1-Dec. 31, 2013: Application period is June 1-Aug. 31. Late application period is Sept. 1-15 with $25 late fee.
Exam period of Jan. 1-March 31, 2014: Application period is Sept. 1-Nov. 30, 2013. Late application period is Dec. 1-14 with $25 late fee.
Exam period April 1-June 30, 2014: Application period is Dec. 1, 2013-Feb. 28, 2014. Late application period is March 1-15, 2014 with $25 late fee.
“Depending on when you turn in your application… you will have a defined three-month period in which to schedule your exam,” said Andrea Van Hook, RESNA’s communications & marketing manager. “We think this will help people better prepare and plan for the exam.”
