The newly updated Assistive Technology Professional (ATP) exam will be offered at a discounted price from July 1 through Oct. 31, RESNA has announced.
For those four months, candidates sitting the exam will receive a $100 discount off the normal $500 exam fee.
A news announcement from RESNA said experts from a range of assistive technology specialties “have contributed their time and expertise as part of the rigorous process to update the exam. At every step of the way, efforts were taken to ensure the new exam reflects the broad diversity of current assistive technology practice.”
The exam, RESNA added, was last updated in 2009.
The test structure remains the same, with candidates having four hours to answer 200 multiple-choice questions. RESNA indicated that the exam tests a candidate’s overall knowledge about the assistive technology service delivery process, the application and evaluation of a range of technology solutions, and RESNA’s code of ethics.
“In keeping with the growing internationalization of assistive technology practice, the new ATP exam no longer includes U.S.-centric funding questions,” the news announcement noted.
Daniel Cochrane, MA, MS, ATP, chair of RESNA’s Professional Standards Board, said of the new exam, “We’re grateful to all of the AT professionals from a wide variety of backgrounds who participated in the exam update. Hundreds of AT practitioners participated in the job validation survey alone. Ensuring that the exam is representative of the diversity of current AT practice is critical to maintaining the ATP certification program’s high standards.”
Till March 15, candidates can choose between taking the new exam and the old one, though the discounted price applies only to the new exam. After March 15, only the new exam will be offered.
In August 2015, RESNA said nearly 4,200 professionals were currently certified as ATPs.
