The revised Advance Beneficiary Notice of Noncoverage (ABN) form must be used starting Jan. 1, 2012, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) have reminded providers.
CMS recently changed the font on the ABN form, also known as form CMS-R-131. But CMS added that the content of the form wasn’t changed during the typeface revision.
“In order for suppliers to have time to transition to using the newly revised ABN form, mandatory usage of this version begins on January 1, 2012,” said the CMS reminder. “The newest version is identified by the release date of 3/2011 printed in the lower left-hand corner.”
