SC BlueCross Acquires CIGNA Government Services

March 31, 2011 by Laurie Watanabe

CIGNA Government Services (CGS), which serves as the Jurisdiction C DME MAC, has been acquired by BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina (SC BlueCross).

In an announcement last week, Jean Rush, CIGNA Government Services president, said, “What is most important to share with you today is that our name will change, but the high level of service you’ve come to expect from us will remain exactly the same! In fact, CGS will remain in place, and all current CGS employees, their roles and responsibilities will automatically transfer with this transaction. You have my personal commitment that you will continue to receive award-winning services from our company and that you will see no disruption in those services!”

Rush added that the transition process “is expected to take several weeks to complete, and we are committed to working closely with SC BlueCross to ensure a smooth transition for you.”

As the Jurisdiction C DME MAC, CIGNA works with providers in Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Virginia and West Virginia. Rush says that in its role as DME MAC, “We also process and pay Medicare claims for over 14 million Medicare beneficiaries and over 100,000 providers and suppliers.”
