Sunrise Medical has acquired Made for Movement, a Norwegian manufacturer of neurorehabilitation therapeutic devices designed to restore and enable movement for people with complex mobility needs.

“We are delighted to welcome Made for Movement to the Sunrise Medical family,” Thomas Babacan, Sunrise Medical’s president/CEO, said in a July 1 announcement. “Their unique and strongly positioned product portfolio, clinical focus, and presence in key European markets make them an ideal strategic fit. This acquisition extends our reach into the growing neurorehabilitation segment and allows us to address user needs more holistically. We also see exciting opportunities to accelerate Made for Movement’s growth globally by leveraging our international scale and commercial infrastructure.”

In the announcement, Sunrise Medical added that Made for Movement, founded in 1995 by Ånund Olsen and Erik Vegge, “is widely recognized for its clinically validated and innovative solutions that serve both children and adults with conditions such as cerebral palsy, spinal cord injuries, stroke and more. Its flagship products — including the Innowalk, Innowalk Pro, and NF-Walker — support early and intensive therapy through motor-assisted standing and robotic gait training. These devices play a critical role in improving patient outcomes and enabling fuller participation in daily life.”

While Made for Movement has historically focused on pediatric users — making it a good complement for Sunrise Medical’s Leckey and Firefly brands — the announcement said Made for Movement’s “recent expansion into adult care further strengthens the overlap with Sunrise Medical’s user base.”

The new lines bring “a highly differentiated product range and a clinically trained salesforce with deep expertise and strong institutional relationships,” the announcement added. “It also enables Sunrise Medical to engage earlier in the user care journey — supporting better outcomes and strengthening connections across the health-care ecosystem, including clinicians, hospitals, special schools, rehabilitation centers, and our valued distribution partners.”

“There is strong strategic alignment between Sunrise Medical and Made for Movement,” said Birger Tufte Johansen, Made for Movement’s CEO. “We share a common mission to improve lives through clinical excellence, innovative design, and deep user understanding. This partnership builds on our strengths and broadens our ability to empower individuals with complex needs to move to improve quality of life.”

Made for Movement has been operating in Germany, Sweden, the United Kingdom, and its home country of Norway. It’s been represented by distributors in an additional 15 countries.

“The acquisition of Made for Movement marks a further milestone in Sunrise Medical’s strategy to expand into high-impact adjacent segments and build a scalable platform for continued growth in neurorehabilitation and therapeutic care,” the manufacturer said.
