Sunrise Medical Launches JAY LitePro Seat Cushion for Active Self-Propellers
The adjustable skin protection cushion has a profile of less than 2 inches.

March 18, 2026 by Laurie Watanabe

Sunrise Medical has introduced the JAY LitePro for highly active, self-propelling wheelchair riders.

The manufacturer described the new adjustable skin protection cushion as “one of the lightest and lowest profile” on the market. “Designed specifically for highly active self-propellers, the JAY LitePro delivers adjustable pressure management, enhanced breathability and exceptional stability — all in an ultra-lightweight design engineered for movement,” Sunrise Medical said in a March 16 news announcement.

The cushion weighs less than 2 lbs. (0.9 kg) with an ultra-low profile of less than 2 inches (51 mm) to facilitate transfers, improve agility and support greater rider independence in everyday mobility.

“At the heart of the JAY LitePro is a patent-pending multi-zone elastomer insert designed to immerse and redistribute pressure away from high-risk bony prominences,” the announcement said. “This innovative material technology promotes healthier skin while maintaining ride responsiveness.

“Engineered to deliver more than twice the stability of traditional air cushions, the JAY LitePro pairs a contoured multi-layer foam base with its elastomer insert, whose zones not only deliver pressure relief, but also targeted, built-in stability. The insert remains securely positioned through every push, reach and transfer, ensuring consistent postural support and confidence in motion.”

Interchangeable pressure adjustment pods on the cushion’s underside provide “fine-tuned pressure management according to individual needs.”

The JAY LitePro also promotes greater breathability, with a 360-degree airflow system “that helps keep riders cooler and drier — up to 45% drier compared to traditional air cushions,” Sunrise Medical said. “Vertical and horizontal air channels in the base, combined with the high-airflow elastomer insert and Air Exchange cover, ensure continuous ventilation during movement.”

The elastomer insert and cover are machine washable. The closed-cell foam base can be quickly rinsed, ensuring the JAY LitePro can provide skin protection while needing minimal maintenance.

The JAY LitePro is available in 14-inch to 20-inch widths and 14-inch to 20-inch depths. It has a rider weight capacity of 330 lbs.

“At Sunrise Medical, we understand that for active riders, every gram and every millimeter matter,” said Bernd Krebs, chief technology officer, Sunrise Medical. “The JAY LitePro was engineered to remove compromise and deliver high-level skin protection and stability in one of the lightest, lowest cushions available today.”
