Sunrise Medical has won a new, “broad-based” patent that covers what the company calls “key design concepts” for the Quickie IRIS and Zippie IRIS, its adult and pediatric tilt-in-space wheelchairs. The IRIS acronym stands for “Intelligent Rotation in Space,” and refers to a rotational tilt system that reduces or eliminates movement of the user’s center of gravity during tilting. IRIS keeps the chair’s wheelbase and tilt carriage in symmetrical balance, and that improved stability makes for greater comfort for the user.
Calling IRIS’s technology “something special,” Bernd Krebs, senior VP of mobility & standard products for Sunrise, says, “The receipt of a new patent reaffirms our corporate mission and is evidence of innovation in action.” For details on the Quickie IRIS or Zippie IRIS, go to www.sunrisemedical.com.
