Symmetric Designs Announces New HCPCS Codes for Respira Back Support
The wheelchair back is available in three models.

In an Oct. 31 notice, CEO Sam Hannah announced that the Respira line is now coded E2620 (positioning wheelchair back cushion, planar back with lateral supports, width less than 22 inches, any height, including any type mounting hardware) and E2613 (positioning wheelchair back cushion, posterior, width less than 22 inches, any height, including any type mounting hardware) in the United States.

“We have over 56 sizes for the Sport, Comfort and Deep Comfort trims,” Hannah added.

Respira backs are designed for breathability and microclimate management. The Respira Sport back features Stimulite honeycomb padding with a cellular matrix that is more than 90% open space, and a Spacetex Silver cover that eliminates bacteria and odor while helping to regulate internal heat and optimize circulation.

The Respira Comfort back support has an ultra-soft, antimicrobial Spacetex Air cover with perforated cooling gel memory foam. The dual-layer foam enhances pressure redistribution and support. The top foam layer, with its gel-infused layer, contours to the wheelchair rider and cools, as the second layer of foam provides postural support. The Spacetex Air cover has a 3D, four-way stretch design and uses low-shear Lycra fabric.

The Comfort also has piping on the cushion cover that appears gray, but lights up when lights shines on it to improve visibility.

The Respira Deep Comfort features a fixed lateral support system.

An optional clip-on fan system provides active ventilation — with low, moderate and high speeds — to further manage microclimate. The fan can be charged using a USB charger via laptops, computers, power banks and other USB-enabled devices.

A range of mounting hardware options enables clinicians and providers to achieve the best possible fit for every Respira user.

Respira back supports are available in 12-inch to 20-inch widths (30cm to 51 cm); heights of 10 to 20 inches (25cm to 51 cm); and contours of 3 inches or 6 inches (7cm to 15cm). Each size can fit a wheelchair width 2 inches wider than the specified shell width.
