DIESTCO Manufacturing Corp., creator of cup holders, storage bags, canopies and other accessories for scooters, manual and power wheelchair, will remain open for business.
After owner and president Dan Diestel passed away in October, the company initially announced it would be closing. But the company has since reversed course and will now stay open.
DIESTCO did not exhibit this year at the Southern California Abilities Expo last month in Long Beach, but the fan favorite company did attend the show and hinted it might also visit the June Abilities Expo in Chicago.
Eliza (@DisabledEliza on YouTube), who is an ambulatory wheelchair rider, and her friend Nina do a great job of explaining differences between part-time and full-time wheelchair users, while dispelling some common myths, such as that all full-time wheelchair riders are paralyzed.
Also: Love Eliza’s “dynamic disability” term to mean a disability that can change in symptoms and presentation from day to day, as well as progress over time vs. Nina’s non-progressive condition. London-based Eliza tackles other topics that will sound very familiar to wheelchair riders, such as “What happened to you, then?” questions from strangers, and whether “ring for assistance” bells outside shops really do result in ramps being deployed.
