Ian Ruder, who sustained a C5 spinal cord injury in a motor vehicle accident as a teen, became the editor in chief of New Mobility in 2018 … and is also a passionate LEGO fan who is the “proud owner and builder of a lineup of LEGO starships that would make Darth Vader blush, and not one, but two LEGO villages,” as he says in a New Mobility YouTube video.
Ruder demonstrates the tools he uses to build LEGO and shares a few “hacks and tricks” that have helped him to become a LEGO master.
David Aguilar — aka, Hand Solo — was born in Andorra without a fully developed right forearm, a result of Poland Syndrome. After developing a love for LEGOs, he built his first prosthetic using LEGO bricks at age 9. At age 18, he built the first functional LEGO prosthetic arm — which he named the MK-1 in homage to Iron Man’s first suit of armor — earning him a spot in the Guinness World Records.
