U.S. Rehab Launches Aug Comm Courses Online

March 17, 2022 by Laurie Watanabe

Seating professionals looking for courses on augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) can now learn online through U.S. Rehab.

The new AAC courses, announced on March 7, were created in response to requests from U.S. Rehab members, the member services organization said.

“AAC education is important for those training to become an ATP, as this is a portion of the ATP exam through RESNA,” the U.S. Rehab announcement noted. “ATPs and people who are preparing for the ATP exam can purchase and take these courses as a way to learn about AAC or brush up on their skills online.”

The three courses were created by M. Claire Campbell, MA, CCC-SLP, ATP, a speech-language pathologist II and LAMP Certified Provider for AAC based out of the Vanderbilt Bill Wilkerson Pediatric Speech Clinic. “The courses include background and assessment of need, access considerations, and intervention and progress monitoring,” U.S. Rehab said. “Each course offers 0.1 continuing education units through IACET.”

Courses can be purchased individually or as a three-course bundle (which includes a discount). U.S. Rehab and VGM members qualify for “significant” discounts. Visit U.S. Rehab’s AAC Education page for details.
