UBC Interprofessional Continuing Education Is Closing Down

April 21, 2021 by Laurie Watanabe

Interprofessional Continuing Education (IPCE) at the University of British Columbia (UBC) has notified stakeholders that it is ceasing operations.

IPCE is best known in the Complex Rehab Technology industry for operating the International Seating Symposium (ISS) in even-numbered years, when the ISS is held in Canada.

In an April 21 bulletin to the industry, Jo Nam, IPCE’s Senior Education Manager, said, “It is with heavy hearts that we inform you, due to circumstances beyond our control, Interprofessional Continuing Education is winding down all operations. We want to acknowledge and thank everyone who has been involved with IPCE initiatives over the years for their efforts and commitment to IPCE and the communities they served beyond UBC. It has been a privilege to serve you, and your communities, and we wish you all the best in your future endeavors.”

Nam added that the team at Sunny Hill Health Centre “is currently looking into seeking alternate partners [for future ISS events]. You will receive information directly from their team once there is an update in regards to the feasibility of future ISS in Vancouver.”

The Canadian edition of the ISS has long been held at the Westin Bayshore in Vancouver. In odd-numbered years, the ISS is hosted by the University of Pittsburgh. The 2021 ISS is scheduled for late October in Pittsburgh.
