United Spinal Launches 2022 Campaign

January 14, 2022 by Laurie Watanabe

A year after celebrating its 75th anniversary, United Spinal has announced its theme for 2022.

In a Jan. 12 video message on Twitter, Vincenzo Piscopo, United Spinal’s President/CEO, described 2021 as “filled with promise” and said that for 2022, the organization is “excited to recognize the tenacity and resilience that makes our community stronger.

“Our 2022 campaign message is built on the theme of living Strong Wheeled Together. Because when our members and partners join forces, we are unstoppable.”

Piscopo then described what Strong Wheeled Together represents, saying it is “based on a vision of diversity and inclusion and wheeled by people power. Together we can drive grass-roots transformative change and achieve greater equality.

“We want all people with disabilities and United Spinal stakeholders, including our members and their caregivers, corporate and allied partners and our supporters, to join us in amplifying the message of unity. It’s one that deeply resonates at the heart of our mission.”

What makes United Spinal “Strong Wheeled Together,” Piscopo said, “is the connection and personal stories that we share along our journey from every corner and intersection of society. Together, we erase the stigma of disability. We lift each other up to overcome challenges and advocate for equal opportunities. We lead by example and empower others to do the same.”

The Strong Wheeled Together theme will culminate “with an amazing virtual event celebrating our members later this year,” Piscopo added. “There is still so much work that needs to be done. And it goes beyond charity or compliance. It’s about recognizing people with spinal cord injuries and disorders as valuable members of society. It’s about ensuring we have a say in the development of technology. That we have a seat at the table when policies are created. That we can pursue our dreams and opportunities and receive quality healthcare. And we can live independently, travel freely and fully participate in our communities.

“We hope you will join us to continue to advocate for disability justice and push the boundaries of what’s possible for wheelchair users.”
