United Spinal Association is launching a support group for consumers who both walk and use wheelchairs.
In its July 3 newsletter, United Spinal said the new Walking Rollers group, “for semi-ambulatory, part-time wheelchair users,” will be facilitated by Rob Henry, a board member of United Spinal Association of Michigan who coordinates that group’s peer mentor program.
Henry, who was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré syndrome in 2019, was initially paralyzed from the neck down. Following rehab, Henry learned to stand and walk again, but is only able to ambulate for short periods due to “nerve damage in both feet along with neuropathy.” Henry now uses a power chair as his main mobility method.
The group will meet virtually on the fourth Monday of each month, with the first meeting taking place on July 22 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Eastern.
