The University of Pittsburgh is conducting a research study involving military members and veterans with spinal cord injury (SCI).
In a social media post, Brad Dicianno, M.D., a professor in the university’s department of physical medicine and rehabilitation, school of medicine, said, “We are looking for veterans with spinal cord injury and their caregivers to participate in a research study. The study involves online group discussions and trying out a smartphone app. Our goal is to design an app that provides education and interventions to support veterans living with SCI and their caregivers.”
The app is being created to help veterans and caregivers manage medical issues. “We need to understand your needs to best support you,” a post about the research study said.
Study participants will take part in three to six group discussions via Zoom, and use the mobile app for six months to provide feedback.
“The app is designed as a dual-target intervention for both individuals with SCI and their caregivers,” the post said.
To qualify, participants must be military service members or veterans with SCI; or be the primary caregiver of a military member with SCI. Participants must be 18 years of age or older, have smartphones, and have internet and Zoom access. Study participants will be compensated for their work.
