For adults and children unable to operate a power wheelchair with a traditional joystick, alternative driving controls can be a path to independence and function. But alternative controls come in many different forms and require different abilities to operate, making it challenging to determine the optimal system and setup.
Stealth Products’ Gabriel Romero — who has more than two decades of Complex Rehab Technology experience, and has focused on alternative driving controls — will discuss how to create a successful alternative driving controls evaluation environment. Learn how to prepare for the evaluation; the factors that create efficient and effective assessments; and the importance of follow-up communications.
- How to prepare for efficient, effective clinic evaluations with power wheelchair riders and caregivers.
- How, why, and when to incorporate safety protocols into the decision-making process for alternative driving controls.
- How to determine the power wheelchair rider’s, caregivers’, and clinicians’ goals and priorities, and how to measure success.
- When to conduct the follow-up, why these meetings are vital, what questions to ask, and how to move forward.
Join us for this free educational opportunity for seating clinicians, providers, funding specialists, rehab technicians, and other wheelchair professionals.

SPEAKER
Gabriel Romero, Stealth Products
As Vice President of Sales & Marketing at Stealth Products, Gabriel has delivered educational presentations in countries around the world. His journey began in 1999, when he was introduced to Complex Rehab Technology. Gabriel took a special interest in alternative drive controls, and his understanding of critical theories of positioning and support empowered him to help develop the i-Drive brand that includes different types of controls to enable people with disabilities to address their everyday needs. Gabriel has presented educational sessions at Medtrade, the International Seating Symposium, VGM Heartland, and the European Seating Symposium, among others, and he considers one of his greatest achievements to be helping to create a driving simulator, “Wheelz,” to support the wheelchair assessment process. With more than 20 years of experience in the Complex Rehab world, Gabriel still looks forward to what’s coming up next.
