Briefly: Medtrade Announces Attendance; Medicare Seat Elevation Coverage Now in Effect
Featuring Medtrade, NCART, and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

April 4, 2024 by Laurie Watanabe

Medtrade Reports Robust Growth in Dallas

Attendance at Medtrade, held March 26-28 at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in Dallas, grew by double digits, event officials said in a March 28 news announcement.

“This year’s Medtrade attracted more than 2,300 qualified attendees,” Kerry Tyler, Medtrade’s associate show director, said. “That’s an increase of almost 25% over last year.”

Medtrade’s educational conference drew 1,000 registrants compared to 600 registrants at last year’s event.

This was the second year that Medtrade was held annually instead of as two separate events. Medtrade returns to Dallas next year, Feb. 18-20.

Medicare Power Seat Elevation Policies Now in Effect

Medicare’s new power seat elevation coverage policies — including the implementation of a single Complex Rehab Technology HCPCS code (E2298) — began April 1.

According to a March 20 bulletin from NCART, the fee schedule amount of $2000.34 is now in effect, though the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) “delayed a decision on replacing standard power seat elevation codes K0830 and K0831. The DME MACs will calculate local fee schedule amounts to pay claims for covered items during this interim period until a final decision is made.”

The determinations were announced as part of CMS’s Second Biannual 2023 HCPCS Coding Cycle.

“NCART is very disappointed with the final decision, and we have contacted CMS to meet and discuss this issue,” the NCART announcement said. “The information we have gathered does not support the final payment level. We are also coordinating our efforts with the ITEM Coalition, which submitted the NCD [national coverage determination] request. The ITEM Coalition and NCART have concerns that at this payment level, some consumers may be denied access to this incredible product.”
