Mobility Management Product Awards: J4E by Quantum Rehab
The J4E by Quantum Rehab has been named a 2025 Mobility Management Product Awards winner.

February 13, 2026 by Jessica Longly

The J4E by Quantum Rehab has been named a 2025 Mobility Management Product Award winner in the Wheelchairs, Power: Group 2, Single Power category by Mobility Management.

The Mobility Management Product Awards program honors outstanding product development in Complex Rehab Technology (CRT) and accessibility. Andrea Lewis, OTR/L, ATP, Clinical Education Manager at Quantum Rehab, sat down with Mobility Management to share more about the J4E solution and share her thoughts on the future of the industry. To learn more about the Mobility Management Product Awards and view all of 2025’s winners, visit https://mobilitymgmt.com/product-awards/.

MM: Tell us about the J4E solution, including its top features and benefits.

Lewis: The J4E provides users who do not qualify for a Group 3 power wheelchair with the ability to have tilt and power adjustable seat height [PASH], and to drive at 1.25 mph while elevated. With other features like standard 5-mph motors and options, such as power articulating foot platform and 50° tilt, the J4E power chair is engineered with performance at an excellent value.

A recessed battery door shifts the batteries further back in the base. This creates an improved center of gravity and leads to better driving performance for the consumer. The J4E comes standard with QLNES Controller but can be upgraded to the Q-Logic 3 expandable controller. Seating options include either Q4 50° tilt or power articulating foot platform. The J4E has three color options: Back in Black, Electric Blue and Red Corvette. The J4E has a 300-lb. weight capacity, a 20.5” turning radius and 2 pole motors.

MM: In designing this product, what were the top priorities of your design team and engineers?

Lewis: We saw the tremendous advantage elevation was providing to users on our Group 3 chairs and very simply, we wanted to bring that feature, and tilt, to Group 2.  There were several other great improvements made, but elevations were the top goal.

MM: Who and/or what were the inspirations for your winning product’s functionality, features and design elements?

Lewis: Again, we were so moved by how PASH changed people’s lives in our Group 3 chairs that we wanted to expand that to those using Group 2. After hearing and seeing thousands of incredible success stories of people utilizing seat elevation, we wanted and needed to make it more readily available and accessible. Some of those success stories include:

  • A reduction in falls due to transfers that can be set up more safely and effectively.
  • Decreased shoulder and back pain due to less overhead reaching and strain required.
  • Increased independence due to better reaching capabilities to complete activities of daily living.

MM: Who benefits from your product? Can you offer a “typical” client profile?

Lewis: The J4E benefits individuals who require safe, functional vertical access to complete their daily activities. Users who struggle with transfers, reaching essential surfaces, or maintaining safe positioning during daily tasks gain the most from PASH-equipped systems.

The ideal user is someone who moves through a three-dimensional environment, but is limited by reduced strength, balance, range of motion or postural control — and who would benefit from a system that adapts to their functional height needs throughout the day.

A “typical” J4E user often presents with one or more of the following functional challenges:

  • Progressive disorders resulting in reduced ability to perform safe level transfers or overhead reaching.
  • Orthopedic or chronic pain conditions (e.g., severe arthritis, spinal disorders) that restrict joint mobility, limit lifting ability, or cause pain during repeated reaching.
  • Users with limited sitting balance, requiring stable support and adjustable seat height for safe reach and transfers.

The J4E with PASH is indicated when the user:

  • Performs weight-bearing or non-weight-bearing transfers and needs the seat raised or lowered to achieve a safer transfer angle (e.g., sliding board, pivot, sit-to-stand).
  • Needs to reach essential surfaces — counters, sinks, shelves, appliances, bed heights and toileting surfaces during mobility-related activities of daily living (MRADLs).
  • Experiences upper-extremity overuse risk, shoulder strain or fatigue from overhead reaching.
  • Benefits from eye-level interaction for social engagement, workplace tasks or community participation.
  • Requires improved visual orientation and safety during navigation, particularly in environments with variable visibility.
  • Needs a consistent, stable seating base that does not change seat angle while elevating.

MM: Does your winning product offer adjustability or customizability for the different needs of different clients?

Lewis: The J4E is designed from the ground up as a highly configurable power wheelchair, which is suited for the unique medical, functional and environmental needs of each client.

The system provides programmable height ranges, smooth/controlled lifting, and stable elevation without altering seating angles. The J4E also supports a wide range of seating solutions, which allow precise adjustments for posture, pressure distribution, and long-term comfort. Seating and positioning options include:

  • Multiple seat sizes and backrest options.
  • Various types of seat cushions and positioning system compatibilities.
  • Customizable armrests, headrests and lateral support configurations.
  • Adjustable center of gravity and seat depth.

In addition, the J4E offers adjustable leg and foot supports to accommodate contractures, limited ROM, spasticity management, as well as growth or progressive conditions. The system can also be adapted with options such as multiple accessory mounts, lighting packages, USB charging, and personalization components for user comfort or work/school activities.

MM: How does your winning product optimize independence, function, safety, confidence, success with everyday goals, etc., for its consumers?

Lewis: Although mobility is tremendously important for independence, consumers feel empowered by being able to reach the sink and medicine cabinets for grooming care, countertops for meal prep, clothes in the closet, shelves at the grocery store, thermostats to regulate temperature, and so much more; all of which are not possible to so many individuals without the use of seat elevate.

MM: What funding options are available for this product?

Lewis: The J4E is covered by Group 2, single power under K0835.

MM: What makes a product or service a Mobility Management Product Award winner? What advice do you have for future entrants?

Lewis: A true Mobility Management Product Award winner is a product that doesn’t just check feature boxes — it elevates what independence feels like for the end user. The J4E exemplifies this by transforming vertical mobility from a luxury feature into an essential everyday tool. An award-winning product must demonstrate meaningful improvements in safety, function and participation, and the J4E does exactly that. With seat elevation, it enables safer transfers, supports healthier movement patterns, expands environmental reach, and helps users navigate their daily spaces at the height that works for their bodies, not against them. It blends intuitive design with evidence-based functionality, giving providers confidence and users freedom. It’s the kind of innovation that genuinely changes outcomes.

For future entrants, don’t just showcase features — show impact. Tie your technology directly to real-world functional outcomes. Demonstrate how your product helps users do the things that matter. Highlight validated needs, not just engineering achievements. And most importantly, tell the story through the lens of the user. Award-winning submissions can stand out when they clearly articulate why the feature exists, whose life it improves, and what measurable difference it makes in daily function, safety, independence, or participation.
