Members of United Spinal will have the opportunity to apply for a power-assist or seat elevation grant from the Permobil Foundation.
Permobil’s non-profit foundation is offering grants for a SmartDrive power-assist unit for manual wheelchairs, or an Active Height seat elevation system for power wheelchairs.
The grants apply to new Permobil wheelchair orders only, and grants will be awarded based on financial need.
In a May 23 news announcement, James Weisman, President/CEO of United Spinal, said, “We're thankful for the support of Permobil Foundation to empower our members to attain greater independence. Their partnership has helped us expand our mission to improve the quality of life for all people with spinal cord injury and disease.”
United Spinal members can apply for the grant online HERE. Non-members can sign up to join United Spinal HERE.
United Spinal will forward completed applications to Permobil for consideration. Applications must be approved prior to the Permobil wheelchair order being placed.
Ashley Davis, Executive Director of Permobil Foundation, said of the grant program, “The Permobil Foundation was created to enhance and build more impactful partnerships with our non-profit partners and to better fulfill a life of independence for end users. Since our launch in March 2017, we have supported more than 350 individuals and 250 non-profit organizations. Having partnerships with organizations like United Spinal allows us to take our mission a step further and reach more individuals, giving them normalcy and the independent life they need and deserve.”
