Cure SMA Awards Research Grant

Cure SMA has awarded a $150,000 grant to Allison Ebert, Ph.D., The Medical College of Wisconsin, for her research project “The role of teneurin 4 and actin dynamics in SMA [spinal muscular atrophy] astrocyte perisynaptic processes.”

In a March 8 announcement, Cure SMA noted that Ebert’s SMA research history goes back to her postdoctoral fellow days, when she worked “to develop a new human stem cell model for SMA.”

“Today, Dr. Ebert leads a basic science lab where her research group studies how non-neuronal cells contribute to motor neuron loss in neurological diseases,” the organization said. In 2023, Cure SMA awarded a total of $750,000 to six researchers “to pursue our basic research priorities and objectives.”
