Mobility Management Product Awards: Vertiflex MOBILE, Synetik ErgoCare
Vertiflex MOBILE by Synetik ErgoCare has been named a 2025 Mobility Management Product Awards winner.

December 1, 2025 by Jessica Longly

The Vertiflex MOBILE by Synetik ErgoCare has been named a 2025 Mobility Management Product Award winner in the Mobility: Standing Frames/Standers category by Mobility Management.

The Mobility Management Product Awards program honors outstanding product development in Complex Rehab Technology (CRT) and accessibility. Daphnée Lalonde-Larocque, Special Projects & Compliance Coordinator at Synetik ErgoCare, sat down with Mobility Management to share more about the Vertiflex MOBILE solution and her thoughts on the future of the industry. MM: Tell us about the Vertiflex MOBILE, including a few top features and benefits.

Lalonde-Larocque: The Vertiflex MOBILE is a dynamic pediatric standing frame that blends postural support, mobility and independence in one beautifully engineered solution. Designed to adapt to each child’s shape and needs, it enables users to engage in verticalization safely, while moving independently or with assistance, both indoors and outdoors. Available in two sizes and compatible with three wheel sizes, it accommodates users from 23” to 53” floor-to-axilla height and up to 152 lbs.

Its most distinctive features include dual-position versatility (supporting prone and supine verticalization), push-pin removable wheels for effortless transitions between static and mobile modes, and a full tilt-to-horizontal transfer system — building on the trusted Vertiflex line — which ensures smooth and safe transfers for both children and caregivers. The low-to-the-ground design keeps children at eye level with their peers, supporting inclusion, social interaction and confidence. Fully adjustable and customizable, the Vertiflex MOBILE grows with the child, making verticalization a comfortable, empowering and joyful part of everyday life.

MM: In designing this product, what were the top goals of the design team and engineers? What did they most seek to achieve?

Lalonde-Larocque: Our design team set out to redefine what “standing” means for children with mobility challenges. Too often, traditional standing frames turn this essential therapeutic activity into a chore — even a punishment. Children who can move independently in their wheelchairs suddenly lose that freedom once placed in a static stander. They’re upright, but stationary, watching others move and play. We wanted to change that perception completely.

The Vertiflex MOBILE was created to transform verticalization from a clinical routine into a moment of freedom, exploration and joy. By integrating manual mobility into the experience, we made verticalization dynamic, social and fun. Children can now move, participate and interact with others while maintaining the therapeutic benefits of upright positioning. This shift — from restraint to empowerment — not only strengthens physical development but also nurtures confidence, motivation and emotional well-being.

At the same time, we prioritized caregiver safety and comfort. The full tilt-to-horizontal transfer system ensures smooth, secure transitions, reducing strain for both the child and the caregiver while maintaining dignity. Every engineering decision was guided by one clear mission: to make verticalization a positive and engaging experience that supports growth, independence and joyful participation in everyday life — physically, emotionally and socially.

MM: Who and/or what were the inspirations for your winning product’s functionality, features and design elements?

Lalonde-Larocque: The Vertiflex MOBILE was inspired by children and clinicians who reminded us that mobility is more than movement — it’s independence, confidence and connection. One of our greatest inspirations is Zac, one of our young ambassadors, whose simple wish was to cross his classroom by himself to sharpen his pencil, just like his classmates. That small but powerful goal became the spark that guided our design team.

Building on the trusted Vertiflex line’s full tilt-to-horizontal transfer system and dual-position versatility (supporting both prone and supine verticalization), our goal was to add mobility so children could explore, play, and interact on their own.

With push-pin removable wheels for effortless transitions between static and mobile modes, a low center of gravity to keep children at eye level with their peers and an intuitive customization that adapts to each child’s abilities, every detail of the Vertiflex MOBILE model was designed to support inclusion, exploration and joy. We named the very first prototype “Zac” in his honor, a tribute to his determination and to the spirit that drives our work: that true innovation begins with empathy and the belief that every child deserves to move, belong and thrive.

MM: Who benefits from your product? Can you offer a “typical” client profile, including diagnosis/presentation, indications/contraindications?

Lalonde-Larocque: The Vertiflex MOBILE is designed for children who need support during verticalization, including those with cerebral palsy, spina bifida, muscular dystrophy, traumatic brain injury, or developmental delays. It is indicated for children who benefit from upright positioning but require assistance with weight-bearing, postural control, and mobility. Contraindications include severe medical or orthopedic instability where verticalization is not recommended.

Typical users are children who want to participate, explore, and interact — and who benefit from a frame that supports therapy goals while also offering autonomy and social inclusion.

MM: Does your winning product offer adjustability or customizability for the different needs of different clients?

Lalonde-Larocque: Yes — adjustability and modularity are core to the Vertiflex MOBILE. Each unit is fully modular, offering adjustable supports, trays, lateral pads and harness options to match each child’s body shape and therapeutic requirements. It is delivered fully assembled and pre-fitted to the child’s measurements, ensuring immediate usability, while its design covers a wide range of growth, allowing the frame to adapt as the child develops without requiring a replacement.

The wheel system is highly adaptable, with brakes that can be positioned anywhere within a 110° range, with adjustable resistance and height so the child can operate them independently. Push-pin wheels allow easy removal for transitions between mobile and static modes, giving children both control and freedom while maintaining safety. This level of personalization allows clinicians and families to focus less on adjustments and more on participation, progress and joy.

MM: How does your winning product optimize independence, function, safety, confidence, success with everyday goals, etc., for its consumers?

Lalonde-Larocque: The Vertiflex MOBILE transforms verticalization into an active, empowering experience. Its mobility allows children to move with intent — to explore, play or join peers — while maintaining proper postural support. Its low-to-the-ground design encourages social interaction and inclusion, so verticalization is not isolating.

The tilt-to-horizontal transfer system ensures safe, smooth transitions for both child and caregiver, reducing stress while promoting dignity and confidence. Together, these features foster independence, engagement and enjoyment, making verticalization something children want to do — supporting both physical progress and emotional well-being.

MM: What funding options are available for this product?

Lalonde-Larocque: The Vertiflex MOBILE is typically funded through medical equipment reimbursement programs and insurance-based funding, depending on the region. In Canada, most of the system is eligible for public and private funding; however, the wheel base that provides mobility is considered an add-on and is not currently covered. Families, schools or clinics may choose to fund this portion themselves.

In the United States, the Vertiflex MOBILE is HCPCS-coded as E0642: Standing frame/table system, mobile (dynamic stander), any size, including pediatric, under Patient Lifts and Support Systems. This coding allows coverage for the full system, including mobility, when prescribed. The product is also available for direct purchase by rehabilitation centers, schools or families where funding is not applicable.

MM: What makes a product or service a Mobility Management Product Award winner? What advice do you have for future entrants?

Lalonde-Larocque: A winning product starts with listening deeply to users — children, families and clinicians. The Vertiflex MOBILE earned this recognition because it transforms everyday therapy into freedom, exploration and engagement, going beyond functional support to foster confidence, independence and social connection.

Our advice for future entrants: observe, empathize and design for real-life impact. Solutions that combine technical excellence with human-centered understanding — that empower children to move, belong and thrive — are the ones that truly stand out.
