Permobil Explorer Mini Wins Edison Award

April 26, 2022 by Laurie Watanabe

Permobil’s award-winning power mobility device for young children has been honored again.

A mother and father kneel next to their toddler daughter, who is standing in a colorful Permobil Explorer Mini power mobility device, as all three look at fish in a large aquarium.

The Explorer Mini was given a Bronze award by the Edison Awards program, described as “an annual competition honoring excellence in new product and service development, marketing, human-centered design, and innovation.”

The Edison Awards program, named for prolific American inventor Thomas Alva Edison, said previous winners “have included Fortune 500s, small start-ups, and everything in between.”

The Explorer Mini won its award in the Lifesaving & Life-Changing Technology category.

Chuck Witkowski, President of Permobil Americas, said in an April 26 news announcement, “We are thrilled for the Explorer Mini to be recognized by the Edison Awards. Just as Thomas Edison created products that didn’t exist before, Permobil is leading the way by developing the first and only powered mobility device for toddlers aged 12-36 months. The Father of Modern Innovation knew that breakthrough inventions start with identifying a need and then having the vision, competence, and fortitude to see it through. The Explorer Mini is a result of exactly that journey. There truly is no other product like it, and it has been shown to have a transformative impact on childhood development.”

The Explorer Mini is designed to support the cognitive, social, emotional, and spatial development of young children by providing them with independent mobility opportunities. The Explorer Mini has a 35-lb. maximum user weight capacity, and its lightweight, compact design makes it easy to take along on all sorts of childhood adventures.
