ROHO Advisory Board Members Among Speakers at NPUAP Research Symposium

November 15, 2016 by Laurie Watanabe

Two members of ROHO’s Scientific Advisory Board were among the invited speakers for the National Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel’s (NPUAP) Research Symposium, held last week in Las Vegas.

David Brienza, Ph.D., and Dan L. Bader, BSc, MSc, Ph.D., DSc, were invited to speak at the event, which was titled “The Perfect Storm: Microclimate, Pressure & Shear Forces in Pressure Injuries.”

Brienza, professor and associate dean of research at the University of Pittsburgh, was invited to present his paper called “Understanding the Clinical Effects of External Loading on Tissue Deformation in Humans.” Brienza’s study, sponsored by Permobil and ROHO, involves MRI studies “and how to understand tissue loading and effects of intensity of forces on tissue responses,” according to a ROHO news announcement.

Bader, professor of bioengineering and tissue health at the University of Southampton in the United Kingdom, was invited to present his work called “The Problem with Shear — the Science.” The paper discusses mechanisms of shear that lead to tissue deformation and damage from an engineering perspective, ROHO said.

ROHO’s Scientific Board is composed of researchers and clinicians who are leaders in the efforts to prevent pressure injuries. As such, their goals include setting international guidelines for pressure injuries and influencing public policy related to those injuries.

The event also included poster sessions and a panel discussion with the presenters.

The NPUAP’s 2017 Biennial Conference is scheduled for March 9-11 in New Orleans. The deadline to submit poster abstracts is Dec. 16. For more information, click HERE.
