Riders who use eye-gaze technology to drive their power wheelchairs and control their power seating now have another interface option.
Tolt Technologies has launched Ability Drive for iPad, now available for ordering along with the new Tolt Technologies A13i.
“The A13i pairs an iPad with an eye-tuitive eye tracker, so one device can drive the chair, adjust the seating, and run the iPad,” Tolt Technologies said in an Oct. 1 news announcement. “Someone can drive across the room and recline to get comfortable or meet their pressure management goals.”
Power chair riders can look at an arrow on the iPad’s screen to move the wheelchair in that direction. Looking away brings the power chair to a stop.
Tolt Technologies said the Ability Drive for iPad is compatible with the Tolt Technologies A13i; Forbes ProSlate 13 with Enable Eyes; Apple Vision Pro, with support available in visionOS 27; and Irisbond Oskol 2, when equipped with an available USB port.
A new Tolt Technologies video shows a power chair rider driving her power wheelchair outdoors using her eyes and a tablet — demonstrating how eye-gaze technology has improved in outdoor lighting conditions.
“For many people living with ALS, spinal muscular atrophy, muscular dystrophy or a spinal cord injury, there comes a day when the joystick no longer works for them,” Tolt Technologies said. “For others, including many people with cerebral palsy, a joystick was never an option. Either way, it can mean waiting on someone else to get where they want to go. Tolt Technologies is changing that with Ability Drive for iPad, which lets a person drive their power wheelchair using only their eyes.”
