BraunAbility Launches “Save My Spot” Parking Education Program

January 26, 2016 by Laurie Watanabe

A new educational campaign by BraunAbility is empowering people who use wheelchairs, while educating those who park illegally in spots reserved for those with disabilities.

The accessible vehicle manufacturer’s new “Save My Spot” campaign is offering consumers a free “parking kit” complete with sticky-note “parking tickets,” a bumper sticker, window clings and a baseball cap.

The theme of these tools – as well as the Save My Spot Web site – is to educate drivers on the proper use of parking spaces designated to be used by those with disabled placards. A video on the site, for instance, explains why parking spaces are accompanied by adjacent blue-striped no parking zones, and how those zones are needed by vehicles that deploy wheelchair ramps.

In a news announcement, BraunAbility said, “Handicapped parking space abuse is the number one complaint received by our employees at BraunAbility, and clearly a problem that needs addressing on a national level. We work very hard to give mobility freedom to our customers, and it pains us and them when it is stripped away when someone parks illegally in handicapped parking spaces.”
