Curtiss-Wright has launched the R-Net ISM2 system, described as “a next-generation platform for complex seating control on medical mobility rehabilitation power chairs.”
The new ISM2 series, Curtiss-Wright added in a Sept. 22 announcement, “provides industry-leading control of up to 14 actuators through a range of slimline two-, four- and six-channel modules. Its compact size gives manufacturers the flexibility to integrate advanced seating functions while protecting valuable chassis and seat space.”
The ISM2 gives seating teams precision control of complex, multi-actuator seat movements “across up to 25 axes, supporting customized up/down behavior for each axis,” the manufacturer said. Up to eight memory positions can be added to facilitate seating and positioning for power chair riders, as the seating motions remain smooth, predictable and comfortable thanks to fine position control.
The system also provides positioning information such as angle or linear actuator extension, displayed independently for each axis on compatible LCD-based input devices.
“Curtiss-Wright’s Seat Architect design and simulation tool enables designers to construct, model and validate complex seating movements on screen before downloading a complete seating file to the power chair,” the announcement said. “By replacing manual coding with a construct-and-simulate development approach, Seat Architect helps accelerate seating development and reduce iterative tuning.”
The ISM2 was on display last week at REHACARE in Düsseldorf.
“The R-net ISM2 gives power chair manufacturers a future-ready seating architecture designed for speed, safety and flexibility,” said Curtiss-Wright Industrial’s Director of Product Management, Tom Walsh. “It combines high actuator capacity, intelligent seating control and practical development tools that reduce complexity, helping OEMs create sophisticated, comfortable and reliable seating systems with greater confidence and efficiency.”
